Francis Irvin “Big Mac” McMahon, 87, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Francis was born August 21, 1929 in Holidays Cove, W.Va., the son of the late Thomas and Wilda (Younkins) McMahon.  He was a retired boat captain for the former Standard Sand and Gravel Co. and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wheeling.  He also served 22 years as a merchant seaman and was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Mary (Pomorski) McMahon, in 2006; a daughter, Barbara Jean Casto; and a great-grandson, Evan McMahon.
Francis is survived by his six children, Paul McMahon of Wheeling, Diane M. (Greg) Hinerman of Elizabeth, Tenn., Francis M .”Stitch” McMahon of Wheeling, Joseph W. McMahon of Wheeling, Rita A. Mullins of St. Mary’s, Ohio and Jeffery T. “Red” (Sheri) McMahon of Wheeling; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Sunday, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, South Wheeling Chapel, 3828 Jacob Street, Wheeling, where services will be held at 11 am, Monday, September 26, 2016, with the Rev. Bekeh Utietiang officiating.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, with full military honors provided by the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard.

I’m so sorry to hear about Uncle Francis. I will always remember his good nature plus his smile, which had a bit of mischief about it. My Mom, his sister, remembers him rescuing her when she was a kid, and for many years now, that’s how I think of him, too. God bless him!
