Harry Edward Heckman

HECKMAN, Harry E., 97, of McMechen, W.Va., died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in Largo Medical Center surrounded by family.
He was born October 22, 1920, in Captina, W.Va., a son of the late John and Maggie (Cain) Heckman. He was a member of the McMechen Church of God and was retired from the Fostoria Glass Company in Moundsville, W.Va. He was a member of the American Legion Post #46, the Archaeological Society of Ohio, the Upper Ohio Valley Chapter of the West Virginia Archaeological Society, and the National Rifle Association. Harry was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps where he served eighteen months in Italy, France, and Germany. He earned five battle stars as a radar and control center operator for the Twelfth and Ninth Air Forces.
Harry recently returned from the Honor Flight in Washington D.C. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, and enjoyed having his hair cut by Vicki Hossman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Francelle L. Fream Heckman; one brother, Harold Heckman; two sisters, Hilda White and Helen Kessler; and son-in-law, Darrell Spatafore.
He is survived by two daughters, Cherry (Michael) Pivik of Triadelphia, W.Va. and Diana Spatafore of Largo, Fla.; two grandchildren, Scott Spatafore of Largo, and Toni (Sean) Donahey; one nephew; and several nieces.
Friends will be received on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 12 pm with Rev. Mitch Johnston officiating, Interment with military honors will follow in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens.
