McANINCH, John William “Mac”, 92, of Wheeling, W.Va., slept away peacefully in Good Shepherd Nursing Home on Saturday, January 21, 2017.

He was born April 23, 1924, in McMechen, W.Va., a son of the late Charles and Edna Leach McAninch.

Mac was one of the original members of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mount Olivet, W.Va. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He retired from the former Wheeling Wholesale Grocery Company as the office manager and buyer in 1996 after 42 years of employment.

Mac’s life was directed by his profound love of God, his entire family, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He held in his heart a respect for everyone and always had stories to share with anyone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Rickus McAninch in 1983, his second wife, Ellen Reed Wayt McAninch in 2015, two brothers, Charles Joseph and George McAninch, and three sisters, Dorothy Mae Chambers, Betty Lee Colmar, and Sally Tullis.

Surviving are four daughters, Patricia Bousquet (Dave) of Cadiz, Ohio, Kathy Roth (Steve) and Susie Gayda (Don) of Wheeling, and Jennifer Kelly (Mike) of Westerville, Ohio; two step-daughters, Sharon Hudson of Toledo, Ohio and Melinda Thomas (Matthew) of Moundsville, W.Va.; ten grandchildren, Brian Roth (Trisha), Stephanie Roth, and Carly Seals (Andy) all of Wheeling, Derek Roth of Baton Rouge, La., Ben Gayda (Susan) of Kent Store, Va., Matthew Gayda of Morgantown, W.Va., Michelle Miller (Charles) of Cincinnati, Ohio, John and Daniel Kelly of Westerville, Ohio, and Timothy Kelly (Amy) of Mich.; five step-grandchildren, Tracie Martinez (James) of Stow, Ohio, Corie Hudson-Skibinski (Chris), Betsie Dudley (Mike) of Toledo, Ohio, Jessica West of Moundsville, W.Va., and Jimmy West (Samantha) of Fla.; ten great-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren and one step-great great grandchild.

The family would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the entire staff of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home for the compassionate care they provided for Mac throughout his stay.  They truly became family to him.

A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Will miss Mac at Good Shepherd…he was always a hoot to talk with…and was so happy when I got him what he called “a real sausage sandwich”. God will take care of you now my friend.

So sorry to hear of your dad”s passing. I have many happy memories of times spent playing at your house, your dad always made me laugh. He was a good man and I am sure he is enjoying his new life in heaven. Godd bless you all.

I will really miss the time spent with Mac at GSNH, he always loved to tell stories and voice his opinion on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rest well my friend, prayers and thoughts to his loving family.

Mac was a wonderful neighbor. He joined us in our annual Christmas Brunch – always wearing the golf sweater that we will always remember. May he rest in peace knowing he was a good man and neighbor. Blessings to all the family. Ray and Candice Merkle of Bethlehem.
