John William Vessels Sr., 70, of Warwood, WV passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his home.
Born in Wheeling on April 13, 1946, John was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Bogard) Vessels.
He was a retired driver for Laurel Foods and an US Army Veteran.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Clara Ross and two brothers, Charles & Jerry Vessels.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Sharon “Jill” (Humphrey) Vessels of Warwood; son, John Vessels, Jr of Wheeling; three sisters, Margaret Robinson of Wheeling, Shirley Edge of Warwood and Judith (Stephen) McAnarney of Paden City, WV; granddaughter, Sonja Harris-Keller and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Monday, January 23, 2017 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV and again on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 10am until the time of service at 11am at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wheeling, with Pastor R. Paul Schafer officiating.
Interment will follow Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.

John Jr., Sharon, and Family, please accept our condolences on you loss of father and husband. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. John Jr., your mother may remember this, but you were going to be our ring bearer in our wedding, but changed your mind. We still look at our pic of you standing up on the pew that day. JILL, I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, WORDS CAN NOT POSSIBLY EXPRESS OUR HEART FELT SORROW FOR YOUR LOSS, I CAN’T BEGIN TO IMAGINE. TERRY, MYSELF AND OUR TWO SONS TJ, AND WILLIE ALL SET AND HAD A PERSON REMEMBRANCE OF UNCLE JOHNNYS HUMOR. HOW HE HAD A WAY OF MAKING EVERYBODY SMILE AND LAUGH OUT LOUD. PLEASE KNOW YOUR NOT ALONE IN YOUR PAIN. THOUGH WE DONT KNOW YOUR DIRECT PAIN, WE SHARE A PAIN KNOWING HIS SMILE AND LAUGHTER ARE NOT HERE ON EARTH WITH ALL OF US ANY MORE.
