Josephine T. Wilson, 102, of the Pittsburgh area, died on Sunday, February 5, 2017, while residing at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV.
Josephine was born in Mt. Washington, PA, on October 30, 1914, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Petranella (D’Agosta) Tardio. She graduated Cum Laude from Duquesne University in 1939. She was one of two women in the class of ’39. Immediately after graduation, she worked for the Pittsburgh School District teaching English to Italian immigrants. She married and left the Pittsburgh are and returned to 1955. Josephine then began teaching English and History for the Elizabeth-Forward School District and became chairwoman of the English Department until she retired in 1988.
In addition to her parents, Josephine is preceded in death by her husband Charles G. Wilson, Sr.; her son, Dr. Charles G. Wilson, Jr.; four brothers, James, Peter, Felix and Paul Tardio; her sister, Philomena Barnhart, along with several infant brothers.
Surviving is one daughter, Linda Wilson Byrum and her husband, Bernard, three grandchildren; Benjamin B. Byrum and wife Stacy (Schayes) Byrum, and son Hunter; Charles R. Byrum and wife Jenn (Yoho) Byrum, daughter Samantha and son Charles; Sarah Wilson (Byrum) Hlebiczki and husband Brian Hlebiczki, son Caleb and daughter Camryn, all in Wheeling. Surviving also are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
At the family’s request there will be no viewing or services. The graveside service and burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling are private and at the convenience of the family.
