Giustini, Dr. Fernando G., M.D., 87, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
He was born May 19, 1931, in Corchiano, Italy, a son of the late Antonio and Nara Giustini. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Wheeling and a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in the Medical Corp in Westover, Massachusetts from 1961-1963. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1, in Wheeling.
He was a graduate of the University of Rome, School of Medicine in 1956 and served his internship at Wheeling Hospital in 1957. He was the Assistant Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Westover Field Base Massachusetts 1961-1963. Throughout his career he worked for the West Virginia School of Medicine, Ohio Valley Medical Center, where he was chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and director of Residency program obstetrics and gynecology from 1969-1976, Wheeling Hospital, Bellaire City Hospital consultant staff, and the East Ohio Regional Hospital consultant staff.
He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the West Virginia Medical Association, the Ohio County Medical Society, the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American Fertility Society.
He also taught at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1957-1960, and the West Virginia School of Medicine, Assistant Clinical Professor- Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1972-1976.
He loved spending time with his family, golfing, and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (Farri) Giustini; two sons, Anthony (Anne Laure) Giustini of Paris, France, and Louis (Kimberly) Giustini of Greencastle, Pa.; one sister, Anna Rosa Quattrone of Longboat Key, Fla.; one brother, Rolando Giustini of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Carlo Giustini, Tosca Giustini, Francesca Giustini, Alexander Giustini, and Sophia Giustini.
Friends will be received on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 9-10:30 am at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11 am at St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. Martin Smay as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
