James V. "Chief" Chieffalo

August 17, 1934 - April 6, 2018

Chieffalo, James V. “Chief” of Wheeling, formerly of Benwood, WV, died April 6, 2018 at Liza’s Place.

Jim was born August 17, 1934 in Benwood, WV the son of the late Teresa (Cantalice) and Giovanni Chieffalo. Catholic by faith, Jim was a graduate of the former Union High School, Benwood, WV.

He was an Army veteran; and was retired from the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Yorkville Plant. After retirement, Jim dedicated his life to baseball scouting for the Saint Louis Cardinals. Through is eyes many National League Baseball players were discovered. He was proud to be associated with the great Stan Musial, one of the greatest baseball players ever.

Being a sport enthusiast, he was always surrounded by big league players during his scouting time.

Jim’s great sense of humor was truly amazing; he never knew a stranger as his legacy will always be remembered, as we laughed and enjoyed his quick wit.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Albert and Herman. He is survived by brothers, Anthony of Wheeling, John of Tampa, FL, and Sam (Candy) of Cleveland, OH; sisters, Phyllis Bonsignore of Benwood, and Marie (John) Klenowski of Wheeling; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Dorothy Vess.

Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Wheeling Dialysis Center, for their loving care of “Chief”.

There will be no visitation. Services will be private. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
