Bartholomew Anthony "Buddy" Benedetto

Benedetto, Bartholomew A. “Buddy”, 97 of Wheeling, died Sunday October 20, 2019 in Wheeling Hospital.

Buddy was born May 19, 1922 in Wheeling, the son of the late Anthony and Lyditta Proetti Benedetto.

He was  employed with the former Continental Can and a retired laborer in the Shipping Department at the former Wheeling Closure, Wheeling ; a former member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church; a member of Cathedral of St. Joseph ; a US Army veteran of WWII with the 99th Infantry and a member of Bellaire Sons of Italy Lodge 754.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Bertha E. Strauss Benedetto; infant twin brother and sister Bartholomew and Julia and two other sisters Frances Rizzi and Philomena Hoskins.

Surviving are a son Anthony “Tony” D. Benedetto (Nancy) of Bridgeport, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on  Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11 am at Cathedral of St.Joseph, Wheeling with Monsignor Joseph Peterson as celebrant. Interment at the convenience of the family.

The family wishes to thank Mr. Donald Kirsch and all the staff members at Good Shepherd Nursing Home for their caring service for Mr. Benedetto.
