Bernard Francis “Bernie” Palkovic, 89, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020.
Bernie was born January 7, 1931, in Wheeling, a son of the late Frank & Emma (Weigand) Palkovic. He was retired from Wheeling Linen Service; a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; and a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates, W.V.U. and Wheeling Central fan.
In addition to his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Burke) Palkovic in 2012; a brother, Richard Palkovic; and a sister, Mary Jo Matleck. He is survived by his four children, David (Theresa) Palkovic of Wheeling, Wayne (Shelly) Palkovic of Martinsburg, WV, Susan (Sam) Furbee of Columbus, OH and Karen Palkovic of Wheeling; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also known as “Uncle Pal” to his nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Thursday, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Friday, September 25, 2020, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. Paul Hudock as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, with full military honors.

Dave and family I am so sorry to hear of your Father’s passing. He and your Mom were wonderful people. They raised a beautiful family and taught them good values. Now they are enjoying their heavenly rewards. May the Lord wrap his loving arms around you at this sad time. I will keep you in my prayers
Sue I am so sorry about your Dad I just found out. We can’t get newspapers in the shop so I didn’t see it or I would have been in to see you all. Call me at the shop if you feel up to it.

It was a pleasure to have been his caregiver for the last 3yrs. He will be missed. Bernie and I had a lot of laugh’s together.
