Carmella Mary Battaglino, 83, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019, at her home.

Carmella was born November 6, 1935, in Bluefield, WV, a daughter of the late John Battaglino, Sr. and Filomena (Pastore) Battaglino. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grade School and Beaver High School, Bluefield, WV. Carmella worked in the business office at Thornton’s Clothing Store in Bluefield for 20 years, before moving to Wheeling in 1965. She attended the B.M. Spur School of Nursing at Reynolds Memorial Hospital, in 1967.

Carmella retired as a nurse for Reynolds Memorial Hospital, after 30 years of service. Following retirement, she spent 8 years as an office nurse for her brother, Dr. John Battaglino, a local obstetrician-gynecologist. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Wheeling; the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Our Lady of Peace Council 12195; the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph Auxiliary; the Wheeling Hospital Ladies Auxiliary; and the Women’s Club of Wheeling.

In addition to her parents, Carmella was preceded in death by her two brothers, infant John Battaglino, Jr. and Anthony (Jennie) Battaglino; and four sisters, Margie Pantone, Madeline Kinder, Josephine Deskins and Teresa Rorrer. She is survived by a brother, Dr. John Battaglino of Wheeling; a sister, Virginia P. Battaglino of Wheeling; two nieces, Mary Rose, Phyllis Leyshorn; four nephews, Charles Rorrer, Anthony (Mary) Pantone, John Pantone and Patsy (Phyllis) Pantone; two great-nephews, A.J. & Tony; two great-nieces, Karen and Jessica; five great-great-nieces and nephews, Tony, Dominic, Dino, Angelina and Mario; and a great-great-great-nephew, Alexander.

The Battaglino family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Over The Rainbow Home Health Care and Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care.

Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Sunday, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a vigil and rosary service will be held at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Monday, February 25, 2019, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph M. Augustine and Rev. Dennis R. Schuelkens, Jr.as celebrants Committal service and interment will be held at 2:30 pm, Tuesday, in Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Bluefield, WV.
