She was active in the funeral choir, Eucharistic ministry, and a former officer of the St. Michael Christian Mothers Association. She was also a long time member of St. Joseph Cathedral, where she was awarded a Distinguished Alumni Recipient honor from the former Cathedral Grade School.
She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy and an avid supporter of Wheeling Central Catholic High School. Katie loved following her children and grandchildren in sporting events for many years. In addition to her great love of high school sports, she was a true blue dedicated fan of Notre Dame where for many years she organized annual bus trips for so many of her friends and family and she was a true supporter of the Pittsburgh Pirates. She led a very active social life and one of her greatest honors was to serve as First Lady of the City of Wheeling, when her husband, Jack, was Mayor.
Katie is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Jack. Also surviving are her seven children. Cassie (Mike) Welsh of St. Clairsville, Mary Kay (Al) Weidman of Morgantown, Becky (Mike) Komorowski, John (Mary) Fahey, Pat (Tina) Fahey, Gene (Candy) and Tom (Diane) Fahey all of Wheeling. She has been blessed with 20 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters in law, Betty Fahey and Dorothy Fahey, and several nieces and nephews.

So sorry to hear of Katie’s passing. We had time together at Good Shepherd when she was my mom’s (Catherine) roommate. What a wonderful, caring family. May God’s blessings and comfort surround you at this sad time.
