Clara M. Wahl, “Aunt Clara”, of Wheeling, WV passed away peacefully, with family, on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at age 104, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.
She was born February 6, 1914 at Owl Hollow near Lewisville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Peter Andrew and Helen Singer Wahl.
She graduated from Lewisville High School and the Elliott School of Business in Wheeling. In 1941, Clara went to Washington, DC and worked there for the Department of the Navy for 30 years. Her last position was Production Controller in the Logistics Division of Submarine Ship, Naval Ship System Command, Department of the Navy. After 30 years of civilian service to her nation, she retired in May 1971, leaving many co-workers and friends to return to Wheeling where she resided with her sister Mary Wahl Eisenhauer until Mary’s passing in October 1992. Soon after her retirement to Wheeling, she began what would become a second full career as a volunteer at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, a capacity in which she served for another 28 years. She always spoke of enjoying her time there, making many new friends while working with the residents. She was a member of St. Michael Church, Christian Mothers, and the Association of Catholic Daughters of America.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her sisters, Elizabeth Wahl Kreyenbuhl, Mary Wahl Eisenhauer, Rosalia Wahl Brown, and Eleanor Wahl Block, and her brother James Peter Wahl.
She is both preceded and survived by three generations of nieces and nephews who all considered her a special aunt. Clara was also godmother to nieces and nephews in three generations of her loving family, and will be sadly missed by all.
