Earl Walter Braunlich

December 2, 1924 - June 9, 2015

Earl W. Braunlich, 90, of Wheeling, WV, went home to meet his Savior on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
He was born on December 2, 1924 in Wheeling, a son of the late Earl L.
and Stella Witzberger Braunlich.
He was the retired owner of Braunlich Appliances Inc., which opened in Wheeling in 1902, a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church where he was an usher and lector, Trustee of the BPO Elks, Wheeling Lodge #28, Fourth Degree Knight and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Carroll Council #504 and a charter member of the Wheeling Chapter of Serra International.
Earl is a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School and attended Bucknell University where he lettered in football. Earl was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in radar operations.
In Earl’s early years, he enjoyed football and family gatherings at Buckeye Lake, OH. In Earl’s middle years, he was occupied with business and home life, and in Earl’s golden years, his interests were golfing, playing cards with his many friends and vacationing with Sara. Above all, Earl loved and was devoted to his family and to God and that legacy he has passed on to his children.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Sara E. Lynskey Braunlich, four sisters; Kathryn Langham, Virginia Wade, Rhea Sacco and Dorothy Kunick and a grandson, Shawn P. Reed.
Earl is survived by his loving wife and companion of 12 years, Dorothy Cox Browning Braunlich; eight children, Michael F. (Judy) Braunlich of Wheeling, James F. (Teresa) Braunlich of Ypsilanti, MI,  Patricia A. (Tom) Hill of Bridgeport, OH, Kathleen A. (Rob) Reed of Bridgeport, E. Fulton (Caryn) Braunlich of Wheeling, Victor F. (Sandy) Braunlich of Martins Ferry, OH, S. Renee
(Frank) Tarovisky of Wheeling, E. Fritz (Jamie) Braunlich, M.D. of Wheeling; 20 grandchildren, Courtney Westerburg, Bryan Braunlich, Sarah, Jennifer, Bethany and David Braunlich, Alicia Hill, Beverly Reed, Valerie Crow, Tiffany and Josh Braunlich, Chelsey Mengeu, Ted Bommer, Justin, Adam and Lauren Tarovisky, Luke, June and Grace Braunlich; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Dumas of Wheeling; a nephew Jim Billow(Susan) of Navarre, OH; one stepdaughter Beth (Jerry) Keough, three step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Friends received 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Msgr. Eugene S.
Ostrowski V.F. as celebrant.
Interment with Military Honors at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Corpus Christi Building Fund in memory of Earl and Sara Braunlich.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carriage Inn of Cadiz and Valley Hospice for all their loving care.
