Eileen Evelyn (Hawkins) Klatt, 91, of McMechen, WV, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020, in Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital, Wheeling, WV.
Eileen was born December 21, 1928, in McMechen, a daughter of the late Herman and Elda (Oliver) Hawkins. She was a graduate of the former Union High School, Benwood, WV, where she enjoyed theatre and played the French horn in the band. She was a retired service representative for C&P Telephone Co.; and served as past president of the Telephone Pioneers. She was also an active member of the McMechen First Church of God; the Women’s Club of McMechen, where she served as past president; and the Marshall County Senior Center.
Eileen was a very accomplished, and fun loving woman. She was a former WV State Women’s Bowling Champion; and past president of the WV State Women’s Bowling Association. She was also an avid musician. In addition to the French horn, she played the violin and ukulele, and at one time, performed with the Wheeling Symphony. She loved to crochet and make ceramics; was an avid bridge and euchre player; and loved to travel the U.S. with her husband, Harold, and spend time together at their camp near Middlebourne, WV.
In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Klatt, in 2015; a brother, Encil Hawkins; and an infant brother, Russell Hawkins. She is survived by her niece, Lynda (James) Weissenfluh of Marengo, OH; a brother-in-law, James (Suzanne) Klatt of Martins Ferry, OH; a sister-in-law, Darlyn Klatt of Wheeling; and several nieces and nephews, as well several great-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV, Friday, February 14, 2020, from 10 am until time of funeral service at Noon, with Pastor Rodney Hubbs officiating. Interment will follow in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard, WV.
