Eleanore Jean Galla

Eleanore Jean (Campoli) Galla, 94, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021 at her residence. Jean was born March 25, 1927 in Uniontown, PA, daughter of the late Alfred and Clara (Pallon) Campoli.  Jean was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wheeling, and taught first grade there for several years. She then got her nursing degree from West Liberty and worked for various doctors, psych facilities, and Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling. She took additional classes at Wheeling College.  Jean especially loved to travel and learn about other cultures. Countries she visited include Italy, Egypt, China, Tibet, Hong Kong, Turkey, Greece, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Kashmir, Peru, Bolivia, Zimbabwe, and Israel.  After retirement Jean spent time with her beloved dog Maxwell, and did volunteer work at Wheeling Hospital for over 25 years in the Pastoral Care department. She also participated for 25 years in the Women’s Health
Initiative, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. This research focuses on the science of women’s health as they age. She contributed her health data to this important study until her death.  Surviving are her children, Christine (Howard) Webb of Silver Spring, MD, Patrick (Sally) Galla of Louisville, KY and Len Galla of Novato, CA; three grandchildren, Michael (Deda) Galla, Taylor Galla, and Claire Galla; and two great grandchildren, Millie & Kalan Galla.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 7 at 11AM at St. Michael Catholic Church.   Donations can be made in Jean’s memory to Catholic Charities of West Virginia, 2000 Main St. Wheeling WV 26003.
