Evelyn Jane (Tralka) Jochum

Evelyn Jane (Tralka) Jochum, 87, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Liza’s Place.  Evelyn was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jack Jochum, Sr., and her beloved son, Jack Jochum, Jr.
Evelyn was born on December 6, 1931, in Glen Dale, WV, as the first child of the late Charles and Ida (Dargis) Tralka.  Evelyn graduated in 1949 from Saint Joseph’s Academy and she was the office manager for Jack Jochum Truck Service.  Evelyn was a good, Christian woman that always kept her family first.  She was a volunteer and devout member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.  Evelyn devoted her life to her family and was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother and PTA president.  Evelyn loved volunteering at Wheeling Hospital and was past president of the Auxiliary of Wheeling Hospital.  Evelyn will be forever remembered for her quick wit and infectious laugh.  She will be deeply missed and always loved.
Evelyn is survived by her cherished children, Deborah (Lee) McWhorter, Beckie (David) West, Beth Jochum, Patti (Todd) Miller, and her “fifth daughter”, Karen Jochum; her adored grandchildren, Ellen (Joan) McWhorter, Jacqulyn (Dave) Obara, Kristen West, Gera (Bob) Jochum Rounsley, Matthew (Liza) Miller and Maria Miller; her treasured great-grandchildren, Emily, Joseph and Julia Obara, Stella Rounsley and Matthew Jochum Miller, Jr.; her sister and best friend, Peggy Palmer; and brother, Chuck (Rose) Tralka; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter and namesake, Evelyn Rose Miller; in laws, John A. “Pete” Palmer, Dominic and Thelma Pompeo, and Tom and Edna Jochum; and nephews, Joseph Palmer and Thomas Jochum, Jr.
Evelyn appreciated the support and care of Martin Imbrosio, Mike and Robin Posey, Monsignor Kevin Quirk, and the amazing staff at Wheeling Hospital and Liza’s Place.
Evelyn’s family will welcome friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Friday, September 6, 2019, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 14th and Eoff Streets, Wheeling, WV.  A vigil service will be held at 7:30 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 13th and Eoff Streets, Wheeling, with Monsignor Kevin Quirk as celebrant.  Evelyn will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center, 125 18th Street, Wheeling WV 26003, or The Auxiliary of Wheeling Hospital, 1 Medical Park, Wheeling WV 26003.  Contributions can also be made online at www.TMCfunding.com.
