Gladys Elizabeth “Betty” Key, 98, of Glen Dale, WV, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 24, 2020 at home with her family.
She was born November 24, 1921, a daughter of the late Richard and Mamie (Hazlette) Otte. Betty was an active and devoted member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She worked for 17 years at Louis Marx and later retired from the Appalachian AFL-CIO with Job Corps. Betty was a member of the Committee of Union Women’s Concerns of WV, the West Virginia Labor History Association and the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley. She was also on the Counties Central Labor Council and Committee for Political Education for Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler counties. In 2002, Betty won the “Outstanding Democrat of the Year’ Award.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Stanley Key (2000) and three siblings, Ruth Otte, Joseph Otte and Thomas Otte.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Mary Ruth (Jim) Whorton of Glen Dale; one brother, H. C. “Bud” (Jane) Otte of Glen Dale; two grandchildren, Thomas James “T.J.” (Krista) Whorton of Westerville, OH and Matthew (Nicole) Whorton of Wheeling, WV; four great-grandchildren, Lexie and Emmy Whorton and Colin and Ella Whorton and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the convenience of the family.
