Helen DeFazio Chiazza, 93, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020, in Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.

Helen was born December 23, 1926, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Samuel J. and Assunta (Capabianco) Defazio. She was a graduate of Wheeling High School, and a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Wheeling. She also worked in the children’s department at the former Lerner’s Clothing Store, and retired from Hobbs Lumber Co.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Chiazza; a brother, Samuel A. DeFazio; three sisters, Adelina DeFazio-Bernard, Edith DeFazio-Kotlas, and Virginia DeFazio-Sacco; two nephews, Michael Kotlas and Greg Sacco; and a niece, Susan Boirski. She is survived by her nephew, Lanny Sacco of Wheeling; two nieces, Marsha (Bogomir) Kuhar of Columbus, OH, and Gina (Robert) Wilson of Gaithersburg, MD; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Helen was devoted to her family, and celebrated her role as Aunt, with exceptional love and support for all of her nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial for family members will be celebrated at 11 am, Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, with Msgr. Joseph Peterson as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
