James E. McCormick, Jr., 64, of Wheeling, WV, formerly of South Carolina, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020, at his home.
Jimmy was born August 4, 1955, in Wheeling, a son of Joann (Auber) McCormick of Wheeling and the late James E. McCormick, Sr.
Jimmy attended Linsly Military Institute, and was a 1973 graduate of Triadelphia High School. He attended West Virginia University and later graduated, in 2003, with a nursing degree from West Liberty State College. Jimmy was a former employee and then former owner of Chas. M. Sledd Company, a family owned business; and then a registered nurse, where he practiced in Wheeling and South Carolina. He was also a former Big Brother of America; past president of the West Virginia Wholesalers Association; and a member of various other business related associations.
In addition to his father, Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Douglas McCormick. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his two sisters, Diane Wojchowski and Beth (Jody) Prather, both of Wheeling; a brother, John McCormick of Wheeling; nieces and nephews, Justin Zdonczyk, Tyler (Lexie) Prather, Ali (Steven) Yahn, Trey Prather and Morgan Wojchowski, all of Wheeling; five great-nieces and nephews; and Jimmy’s very special friend and caregiver, Paul Hendershot of Wheeling.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, from 5:30 pm until time of memorial service at 6 pm, with Pastor R. Paul Schafer officiating.
