John R. Flading Jr., 70, of McMechen, W. Va., passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 in Ohio Valley Medical Center.
He was born July 16, 1944, a son of the late John R. and Helen (Pooch) Flading Sr. John was a member of St. James Catholic Church, McMechen, a U. S. Navy Vietnam Veteran and served with the VQ Squad during the war, and a member of the American Legion Post 46. He started his working career at Wheeling Continental Can Company and then moved on to a position with National Cash Register. After working at NCR, John moved on to a position with AT&T, in Wheeling, where he transitioned to Florida and later retired. Upon returning to Wheeling, he obtained a job with Wheeling Coin. John also attended West Liberty State College for two years and loved to play cards with friends every Tuesday at Coach’s.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Michael Watrobsky of Fla.
John is survived by his loving wife, of 36 years, Barbara (Polus) Flading; his sister, Bonnie Watrobsky of Fla., and her daughters; Tara Smeriglio and Trina Hemphill of Pa.; his sister-in-law, Rosemarie Zearott of Benwood, W. Va., and her daughters; Amy Hicks of Glen Dale, Angela Salatino of Wheeling and Mallory Oser of Glen Dale.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 215 Marshall St., McMechen, at 6 pm with a memorial gathering to follow until 9 pm.
