John Thomas Clark, Jr.

August 14, 1939 - October 27, 2018

CLARK, John T. Jr., 79, of Moundsville, W.Va., died Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Peterson Rehab and Geriatric Center after a long battle with cancer.

He was born August 14, 1939 in Glen Dale, W.Va., the son of the late Wilma Ward Clark and John Thomas Clark Sr. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Moundsville.

John graduated from Moundsville High School in 1957 and attended West Liberty State College. He worked as a chemical operator at PPG Industries. John was a retired Moundsville City Fireman who loved his job. He was also a trained paramedic. An Army veteran, he served from 1960-1962 and was stationed in Hawaii where he served as a military policeman and took part in atomic testing on Johnson Island before his discharge. After returning home, he served with the local National Guard for several years.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, and several aunts and uncles.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Linda Eller Clark; three daughters, Carolin (Eugene) Shutler of Parkersburg, W.Va., Chris (Les) Naylor of St. Clairsville, Ohio; and Jennifer (Chad) Cline of Glen Dale, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Morgan Shutler of Morgantown, W.Va., Chanry Shutler of Parkersburg, Lily Shutler of Parkersburg, Colton (Jessica) Naylor of St. Clairsville, Corey Naylor of St. Clairsville, Madison Linzy of Glen Dale, Gavin Cline of Glen Dale, Gracen Cline of Glen Dale, and Carter Curry of Parkersburg; one brother-in-law, Don (Linda) Eller of Moundsville; one sister, Marlene Cottrill of Moundsville; one uncle, Glen (Berneda) Ward of Moundsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Especially dear to John were his wife and his family. He loved spending time with his daughters, their husbands, and his grandchildren. He was very proud of them all. In addition, he loved his home and lake property in Greene County, Pa.

John’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 1 pm until time of funeral service at 2 pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapels, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville with Rev. Wesley Howsare officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.
