Joseph Andrew "Coach Joe" Giovengo

May 1, 1976 - February 7, 2022

Joseph “Coach Joe” Andrew Giovengo, 45, of Benwood passed away surrounded by his family on
February 7, 2022.

He was born May 1, 1976 in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of Judy Smith Giovengo of Benwood, and
the late John Thomas Giovengo, III.

He is a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Giovengo.

Joe attended Bishop Donahue High School. He received a Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia
University. Joe is currently employed as a Yard Master for CSX Railroad and is co-owner of the Bruiser
Wrestling Club. Throughout the years, Joe has been a small business owner for Mountaineer Bar Grill
and NY Hot Dog & East Side Tanning. He was a Physical Education teacher for St. James and Johns
Catholic School and was an Adult Education Teacher for Marshall County Schools.

Coaching was important, “Coach” was a title that meant so much to him. Coach Joe was active in many
youth organizations across the Ohio Valley. He was involved in Benwood Baseball/Softball Association,
Bruiser Wrestling Club, Monarch Youth Wrestling, Linsly Middle School Football and Wrestling. His
passion was for youth wrestling and to grow the sport in the Ohio Valley.

Joe poured his heart and soul into his family. There truly was not anything Joe did not know, he was a
“GENIUS”… ask his wife! Joe touched everyone’s lives and made it a point to make all those he
encountered feel so important and special. He showed up when it mattered, had your back, gave to those
in need, and would defend and stand up for his loved ones should the need for it arrive. He kept us safe.

He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Del Re Giovengo; his children, Julianna Marie, Isabella Rose,
Nicola Giovani, and Romeo Joseph; brothers, Tom (Jonette), Jeff (Tiffany) and Josh (Susie) Giovengo, and
many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Friday, February 11, 2022 from 2-8 pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Home,
Moundsville Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, February 12,
2022 at 11am at St. John Catholic Church with Father Doney Chacko officiating.
