Joseph Tellitocci Jr., “Joe”, 65, of Benwood died Thursday, March 15, 2018 in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, W.Va.

He was born December 31, 1952 in Wheeling, the son of Evelyn May Fisher Tellitocci of Wheeling and the late Joseph Tellitocci Sr., who died June 24, 1993.

He was a Roman Catholic by faith and a member of St. John Catholic Church, Benwood.  He was a 1970 graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School.

Joe worked at the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation from 1973 to 2003 as a pipefitter, first at the Benwood Plant and later at the Follansbee Coke Plant.  He has been employed as the General Manager of Wheeling Coin since 2003.

Joe served as a councilman for the City of Benwood from 1982 to 2002.  He was the Project Coordinator of the Benwood Mine Disaster Memorial Committee and worked tirelessly to build and maintain the memorial site.  He and his son, Joey, were honored in 2015 as West Virginia History Heroes for their efforts in establishing the memorial. Joe was known for his tremendous work ethic and dedicated much of his time and handyman talents toward helping others. He loved his camp, Notre Dame, and his two precious grandsons.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Tellitocci, on March 11, 1978; a sister, Karen Tellitocci, on March 7, 2009; a brother, Gary Tellitocci, on May 2, 2014; a sister-in-law, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his beloved wife of 44 years, Barbara Ann Molnar Tellitocci, whom he married September 1, 1973 at St. John Catholic Church, Benwood; two sons, Joseph Anthony “Joey” Tellitocci of Benwood and Travis John Tellitocci and his wife, Bobbi Sue Gibbons Tellitocci, of Nashville, TN; his grandsons, Tyler Joseph Tellitocci and Hudson Robert Tellitocci, both of Nashville, TN, who were the pride and joy of their “Pap”; a sister, Diane Tellitocci Duley and her husband, Robert Duley, of Martins Ferry, OH; one sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends who were like his family.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 2-8 pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, W.Va. where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11 am at St. John Catholic Church, Benwood, with Rev. Arul Anthony as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, beside his beloved daughter, Becky.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Marist Brothers at https://webapps.it.marist.edu/brothers/ or by mail at 4200 West 115th Street Chicago, IL 60655.
