Leonard F. Romanek, 75, of Wheeling, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at home.
He was born September 17, 1940, a son of the late John P. and Berniece Pankiewiecz Romanek.

Leonard was a retired CSX Railroad engineer, was a life time member of St. Michael Catholic Church, and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Mountaineer Fan, fisherman and Ham Radio Operator.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Sandra George Romanek, 3children; Deirdre Bulian and her husband Lee, of Wheeling, Tina Group and her husband Eric, of Washington, PA, Michael Romanek and his wife Sheila, of Wheeling, a brother; John P. Romanek and his wife Jeanne, of Wheeling, a sister; Leonora Romanek of Tampa, FL, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove, where rosary devotions will be conducted at 7:30pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Michael Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Peterson as celebrant.

Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WV Catholic Charities Flood Relief, 2000 Main St., Wheeling, WV 26003.

Sandy, I feel for you and know exactly how you feel. You just have to take one day at a time, try and stay busy. If you need me to do anything, or jus.t want to talk remember I am only short way from you. We have lots of good memories to talk about when we were raising our kids. So sorry for loss of your husband and the kids dad. I will miss him but I bet he and Tom will get together and wait patiently for the both of us. Love You & kids Your baby sidter.

Mrs. Romanek and family: My husband and I were saddened to hear of the passing of your husband and father. He was such a pleasant man. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time and in the weeks to come. May pleasant memories of him be of comfort!

I will always remember the special West Virginia vs. Indiana basketball games behind the garage on Miller Street. You will be missed by all. RIP Uncle Leonard. Prayers for you and your family.
