Margaret Ellen Vogler

Margaret Ellen Vogler 97, formerly of Wheeling, WV, died on Oct. 16, 2019 at Shenandoah Center in Charles Town, WV. She was the eldest daughter of Clyde T and Agnes Nau George born on August 25, 1922. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy (Later known as Wheeling Central Catholic High School.) Margaret worked as a switch board operator for the telephone company in Wheeling. She also managed the Wheeling Central Catholic Cafeteria in the 1970’s and was known affectionately by all the students as the “Cookie Lady.” Family gatherings, sewing, crocheting, dancing, and card playing were her favorite activities. She was best known for “Mrs. Vogler’s chocolate cake with caramel icing” by family and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Henry (Bud) Vogler. He was the love of her life and died in Wheeling, June 2017. Besides her husband and parents, her sisters, brother in laws and brother and sister in laws will be greeting her in heaven: Susan (Bill) Klemm, LaVerne (William R) Knellinger, (Flo) Clyde George, and Phil Wentzel.

Margaret was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Surviving children are Linda (Greg) Frede of Enfield, New Hampshire; Terry (Ceil) Vogler of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gary (Barb) Vogler of Centerville, Virginia; and Larry (Carol) Vogler of Charles Town, WV. Her grandchildren are Sarah Vogler, Christy Daniel, Lindsay (Jared) Jalbert, Chase (Karla) Vogler, Gregory (Maureen) Frede, Casey (Kasey) Vogler, and Cara Vogler. She also had 6 great grandchildren: Brian and Lila Jalbert, Adelyn and Kian Vogler, and Cooper and Wyatt Frede. Surviving sisters include Agnes Wentzel of Cambridge, OH and Shirley (Alec) Berardinelli of Sarasota, FL. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Margaret was a lifelong member of Saint Joseph Cathedral in Wheeling and currently was attending St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Chapel in Wheeling on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 1:30pm, with Rev. Paul Cabrita as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wheeling Central Catholic High School at 14th and Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV 26003 or Hospice of the Eastern Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
