A young soul taken too soon, Mark David Piko, 53, went home to the Lord on Friday, February 12, 2021 while at the hospital due to Pneumonia lead on by Covid-19.
From his family to the servers at restaurants he frequented, Mark never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by many.
Mark was born April 19, 1967 and raised in Wheeling, WVnever leaving the area. He is the eldest of two children to Barbara Piko of Wheeling and the fourth child of six children to Donald Piko of Wheeling. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mary and Phillip Kolb; paternal grandparents, Jennie and John Piko; and brother, Jason Piko.
In addition to his parents, Mark left behind his sister, Christine Hufford; sister Debbie Carpino; sister Dottie Shriner, brother, Donald Shriner; niece, Caitlyn Hufford; niece, Brianne Hufford; niece Hayley Hufford; and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
Although Mark did not have children, his sister’s children were like his own. He gave them advice and lectured them as if they were his own. He was the fun uncle with a tad bit of sarcasm that was passed down to Chris’s eldest daughter, Caitlyn. In the last few years of Mark’s life, he and his niece Caitlyn got to spend more time together, which seemed to be one of his favorite things to do. He loved to play scrabble, Disney board games, and eat dinner when his family and nieces were in town.
Mark was devoted to his work at the Cabela’s Distribution Center in Triadelphia, WV. He spent a lot of his free time with his mother, Barb, and his father, Don. Mark spent his Sunday mornings at Oglebay Park with his favorite coffee in hand, sitting in front of the beautiful fountain and flowers. Mark’s favorite place to vacation was Disney World. There was never a time you would see Mark without him talking about Disney in some manner. He took many trips with his nieces and mother, but the last trip he was able to take was with his mother and sister, Chris; it was a priceless memory for all.
Mark’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Tuesday, February 16th at the Altmeyer Funeral Home in Elm Grove at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to The House of Carpenter in Wheeling.
The family is also requesting that anyone coming to the memorial wear a mask due to Covid-19 and what Mark would have wanted.
