Martin James Spoto

Martin James Spoto, 84, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Wheeling Hospital Continuous Care Center.

He was born May 23, 1935, the son of the late Charles Carlo and Rose (Cerra) Spoto. Martin was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of The Vineyard Church. He retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel as an accountant after more than 25 years. Martin was a member of the Cave Club, Warwood Vets, and the Wheeling Civics. He was an avid marathon runner and fisherman. Martin was a beloved father to his two children and grandfather to his granddaughter, and a devoted volunteer and friend to many.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Spoto Bowman.

Martin is survived by his two children, Mark Spoto of Temecula, CA and Lisa DeLao of San Diego, CA; one sister, Ellen M. Spoto of Wheeling; one granddaughter, Alexa DeLao of San Diego, CA and three nieces, Sheri Bowman Falk and Kelly Bowman both of NC and Marcy Bowman Huntsman-Botizan of Wheeling.

Family and friends will be received Friday, August 9, 2019 from 4-8 pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where a funeral service will be held Saturday, August 10 at 10 am with Pastor Barry Bullman officiating. Interment and military honors to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
