Mary A. (Haynes) Mattern, 84, of Moundsville, WV, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020, in Wheeling Hospital.
Mary was born August 13, 1936, in Bradford, PA, a daughter of the late Orvil William and Frances E. (Carr) Haynes. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Arley V. Mattern; a son, Robert R. Mattern; a grandson, Robert R. II; three sisters, Martha LeMasters, Viola Steidle & Betty Pelley; and seven brothers, Robert, Gene, John, George, Ed, Mike and Paul “Dude” Haynes.
Mary is survived by her granddaughter, Britni Mattern (John Shaw) of Wheeling; great-granddaughters, Kayleicia and Kyleonna of Wheeling; a great-grandson, John Robert; two brothers, David (Phyllis) Haynes of Moundsville and Charles (Diana) Haynes of Proctor; a daughter-in-law, Karen Mattern of Wheeling; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the V.F.W. Post 437 Ladies Auxiliary, where she served two terms as President. She liked to read; was a fan of WVU and the Steelers; and loved animals and most people.
In accordance with her wishes, Mary will be cremated. There will be no visitation or services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Marshall County Animal Shelter, 37 Animal Shelter Drive, Moundsville WV 26041.
