Mary Ann Savarino Fisher, 97, passed away peacefully October 13, 2019 at Liza’s Place.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dominic and Vincenza Diecidue Savarino. Mary’s Mother passed away when she was 8 years old. She and her younger siblings spent time with older siblings and relatives and spent time in the St. Vincent Homes for girls and boys. Mary became head of the household while her father worked in the coal mine. She proudly obtained her GED in her fifties.
Her beloved husband Francis preceded her in death in 2004.
Also preceding her in death were her grandson Dr. Allan Whiteman; sisters and brother in laws Josephine (Jim) Bavuso, Anna (Frank) Impallari (Baller), Rose (Joe) Heim; brothers and sisters in laws , Philip in Sicily, a second Philip shortly after immigrating from Sicily, a third Philip (Kitty) Savarino , Jim(Wanda) Savarino, Lois Savarino, Joe’s wife and mom’s swimming partner. Other brother and sister in laws preceding her in death are Ralph Fisher, Joe Tellitocci, Donald Doyle, George and Rose Fisher. Several nieces and nephews she helped raise and many special friends, most recently her Welty Home companion Penny Vance, whom she missed terribly.
Surviving are her brother Joseph Savarino, sister in laws Evelyn Fisher Tellitocci, Mary Agnes Fisher Doyle, her children and their spouses Thomas (Pat) Fisher, Mary Virginia (Jeannie) (John) Stinoski, Ruth (Marvin) Whiteman, and William (Bill) (Emily) Fisher; her grandchildren Jennifer Fisher, Tim Fisher (companion Robin), Matt (Christy) Stinoski, Ryan (Christine) Stinoski, Julie Whiteman, Amanda (Cory) Neville, Emily (Justin) Eckman and Allan’s wife Khanh Whiteman; her great-grandchildren Mattea and Mia Stinoski, , Khaia Whiteman and her sister Clover, Leila MaryAnn and James John Neville, Adalyn Grace and Ethan Francis Eckman and many special nieces and nephews. Margaret Heim and Rose (Bill) Stephens are especially close to Mary and the family.
We would like to thank the people at the Welty Home who took care of her these last 3 years, the people that treated her at Wheeling Hospital and those at Liza’s Place who cared for her with such dignity during her last few days preparing her to meet the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit , Mary and Joseph and her family and friends that preceded her in death waiting for her in heaven.
Her children thank everyone who loved Mom and may God Bless everyone whom she touched during her 97 years. We were blessed with Mary and Francis as our parents.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Tuesday, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a rosary service will be held at 8 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with Msgr. Paul Hudock as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeliing.
Since our Mom grew up truly knowing what is was like to be hungry as a child, we suggest in lieu of flowers, gifts to Catholic Charities of West Virginia restricted to food for the needy or to St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Elm Grove, or the charity of your choice.
“Well done good and faithful servant.”
