Mary Elizabeth Hamm

Mary Elizabeth (Haddox) Hamm, 91, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in Wheeling Hospital.

Mrs. Hamm was born May 11, 1926 in Glen Dale, W.Va., a daughter of the late Harry B. and Emma (Henretta) Haddox.  She was a graduate of the DeSales Heights Visitation Academy, Parkersburg, W.Va.; attended Elliott’s School of Business; and retired from Oglebay, after 23 years in public relations.  She was also a longtime member of St. Michael Parish, Wheeling; a former reporter for the Moundsville Journal; and former member of the Wheeling Traffic Commission, the Wheeling Hall of Fame Board, and the Mollohan Foundation Board.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hamm was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Hamm, in 1991; a sister, Louise Fox; and a brother, Charles Haddox.  She is survived by her seven sons, Harry “Herk” (Jeanie) Hamm, Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jonathan (Patricia) Hamm of Wheeling, Chris (Ellen) Hamm of Wheeling, Robert (Colleen) Hamm of Pittsburgh, Matthew (Jackie) Hamm of Wheeling, Gregory Hamm of Wheeling, and Jamie (Susie) Hamm of Pittsburgh; five daughters, Marilyn Mull of Wheeling, Denny Seckman of Wheeling, Heather (David) Ziegler of Wheeling, K.C. (Russell) Demor of Gibsonia, Pa., and Gretchen (Nick) Linn of Dallas, Texas; 26 grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, Noah and Anne-Marie Mull, Harry C. “Chas” and Erin Hamm, Kelly Seckman, Jen Kissane, Jamie Ziegler, Allison Scotka, Erica Stewart, Zach Hamm, Ashley, Brooke, Trevor and Kylie Hamm, Will Gramlich, Lizzie Demor, Laura Mae Bechtold, Keelyn Hamm, Alyssa and Jake Hamm, Sara and Cal Linn, and Isabelle and Harrison Hamm; and 17 great-grandchildren, Lily, Carolina, Charlotte, Grace and Jillian Mull, Hailey, Nicholas, Andrew and Ella Mary Thomas, Killian, Colton, Evelyn and Rowan Kissane, Hannah and Deacon Ziegler, Quinn Scotka and Emery Greder.

Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Friday, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 3:45 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, October 21, 2017, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. William K. Matheny, Jr. as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
