Mary “Joan” LaRue, 87, of Wheeling, WV, passed away at home with family by her side, Friday, October 1, 2021.

She was born November 6, 1933, in Melbourne, FL, the daughter of the late Leo and Lillian (Brostz) McNicholas. After graduating Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing, Joan went to work for Reynolds Memorial Hospital for 42 years before her retirement. She was a Roman Catholic by faith, an avid football fan, always cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Notre Dame and West Virginia University and enjoyed playing the piano, antiquing and loved nature.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond LaRue (2007) and two brothers, Charles Leo “Lalo” and George Edward “Ed” McNicholas.

Joan is survived by her two children, Susan LaRue and Raymond E. (Joyce) LaRue both of Wheeling; two granddaughters, Chelsea LaRue Smith and her husband Daniel Smith of Wexford, PA and Megan LaRue and her husband Daniel Boggess of Morgantown, WV; two great-grandchildren, Theodore Benjamin Smith and Finneas Raymond Boggess and several nieces and nephews.

Per Joan’s request there will be no visitation. Entombment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. FiFi was my first charge nurse when I started working at Reynolds Hospital. She was very kind and helpful to this new nurse. Hard to believe that was 42 years ago. May she RIP. Prayers for your family.
