Mary Katherine "Mary Kay" Emmerth

September 14, 1937 - September 27, 2021

Mary Kay Beltz Emmerth, 84, of Wheeling, passed away on September 27, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home of Wheeling, WV.

She was born on September 14, 1937 to the late George and Gertrude (McLaughlin) Beltz in Wheeling, WV.

Mary Kay was the first person to graduate from Wheeling College where she obtained her bachelors degree and she also earned her Masters Degree in Theology at Duquense Univeristy.

She was a long-time member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Follansbee, WV, and attended St. Joseph Cathedral in her younger years.

She worked as a trainer for Black Diamond Girl Scouts and also as a school teacher for Catholic schools throughout the area.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Richard Emmerth in 2017, sister Barbara Swearingen, and brother Edwin Beltz.

Mary Kay is survived by her two sons, Douglas (Pam) Emmerth of Colliers, WV, Phillip Paul (Mary Beth) Emmerth of Wheeling, WV; two daughters, Ann (Erik) Barker of Cumming, GA, Mary (Trent) Pastilong of Morgantown, WV, eight grandchildren: Blake (Sarah) Emmerth, Victoria (Aaron) Heaberlin, Emily Emmerth, Luke Barker, Daniel Pastilong, Elizabeth Barker, Julia Pastilong, and John Emmerth, one great-grandson Andrew Heaberlin, her sister-in-law Karen Beltz, brother-in-law Dr. Bernie Grubler, brother-in-law Andrew (Diane) Emmerth, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Wheeling Chapel 1400 Eoff Street on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and again from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Masks are required per family’s request.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Wheeling, WV on Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 at 10:30 am with Father Narisetti Sateesh as celebrant.

Interment will follow after mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery – Wheeling, WV.
