Young, Max, 89, of Wheeling, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and his faithful fur companion, Missy. Max looked forward to the day he would finally reunite with the love of his life and best friend Nancy.
He was born April 29, 1931 in Fairfield, IL, the son of the late Edgar Young and Clara (Musgrave) Mandley.
Max was a 1949 graduate of Steubenville High School. After graduating, Max went to work for Weirton Steel as a Machinist Apprentice and later worked with his father in the food business. In 1957 Max became a sales Rep. for John Morrell & Co. in Sioux Falls, SD. And held that position for 20 years. In 1967 Max and his wife Nancy opened their first restaurant at 14th and Chapline Street in Wheeling, WV. During the next few years, the Youngs opened restaurants at the McClure Hotel and one at 10th and Main Street in downtown Wheeling. In 1979 the Youngs opened their Glen Dale, WV. Restaurant.
Max was a past member of the Moundsville Country Club, Belmont Hills Country Club and Heritage Oaks Country Club in Sarasota, FL.
Max and Nancy were happiest traveling and enjoyed visiting all lower 48 states, parts of Canada and Alaska in their motor home.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Nancy (Hutter) Young.
Surviving are his three sons Gary Young (Connie) of Glen Dale, Richard Young (Beth) of Glen Dale and Robert Young (Lindy) of Warwood; two brothers Dr. Jess Young of Cleveland and Carl (Karen) Mandley of Henderson, NV: two sisters Sandy McDonald (Larry) and Donna DeSantis (Tom) all of Wintersville, Ohio.; ten grandchildren Travis, Nathan, Michael, Lauren, Jessie, Jordon and Julie Young; Jamie Ferrell, Cali and Brie Young; 9 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 11 am – 1 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling. Services will be at 1 pm with Rev. Wayne Clark officiating. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Soup Kitchen of Greater Wheeling, 1610 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV. 26003.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Your Grandfather was one of the good guys…and he loved all of you. Wrap yourselves in all the fond memories. God gained a very special man and you gained another guardian angel. (Its been a lot of years since Glen Dale Elem…but I remember you guys…and your Mom bring a ceiling fan for our resource room)
