Nina Maria Parco Barton

September 10, 1930 - May 1, 2019

Nina Maria Barton, of Wheeling, WV, peacefully passed away on May 1, 2019, at her home while surrounded by family.

Nina was born on September 10, 1930, in Calabria, Italy, daughter of late parents Benjamin and El Vera Parco. Nina was also preceded in death by devoted husband, “her Bill,” Dr. William Barton; brothers, Herm and Angelo Parco; and children, Billy and Mary Francis Barton.

With an undergraduate degree from Mount Mercy College and a master’s degree from Pitt University, Nina dedicated her career to education. Touching the lives of children as an educator in the Pittsburgh and Ohio Valley areas. She was known for keeping candies in her desk to distribute whenever sugar was a necessity.

Throughout her life, Nina carried a passion for the arts. Instilling in her children and grandchildren a love of piano, singing, the theatre and drawing.

Above all else was her commitment to faith and family. She was an active member of St. Michael Parish Church. Nina engaged in countless volunteer efforts and served her church and community whenever possible. She always encouraged her family to live a life of faith.

Her greatest pride in life was raising her four children alongside her husband. Then came her second greatest joy- grandchildren, who she spoiled, fed and pampered endlessly. Later in life, Nina’s world was made even fuller by the arrival of her great-grandchildren. All four of whom were fortunate enough to experience her love and embrace.

Nina is survived by her four children, Vera Barton-Maxwell of Wheeling, Kathleen Barton Baxter of Wheeling, Robert Barton of North Carolina, and Anita Barton Howard of Wheeling, along with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. All of whom will strive to emulate her kindness, joy for family, grace and compassion.
