WAYT, Norma “LaVerne”, 87, of Moundsville, W.Va. died Saturday, April 2, 2016 at home.

She was born September 10, 1928, in Marshall County, W.Va. a daughter of the late Bernard R. and Eunice W. (Reed) Simmons. She was employed by Fostoria Glass and the Marshall County Clerk’s Office and was a 50 year member of the Moundsville First Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Merlin Simmons, daughter-in-law, Joni Wayt, and grandson, Timothy J. Paul Sr.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul “Blaine” Wayt of Moundsville; one son, Rodney A. Wayt of N.J.; three daughters, Vicki S. (Victor) Paul of Wheeling, W.Va., Amy J. (Gregory) Jewell of Valley Grove, W.Va., and Beth (Richard) Healy of Moundsville; two brothers, L. Dean (Dixie) Simmons of Glen Dale, W.Va. and Byron L. ( Joyce) Simmons of Moundsville; ten grandchildren, Matthew (Jill) Paul, Michael (Jen) Paul, Katie Reese, Nicholas (Whitney) Healy, Shane (Lori) Healy, Jessica (Colin) Heikes, Cody Wayt, Megan Jewell, and Stephen (Tamera) Jewell; granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Paul; seven great grandchildren, Kalyn and Jaxson Reese, and Owen, Kelsie, T.J., and Desiree Paul, and Hudson Healy; several nieces and nephews; and her cat, Cinnamon.

LaVerne loved sports, especially West Virginia University and West Liberty University Basketball. She enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11 am at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapels, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, with Rev. Wesley Howsare officiating. Interment will follow in Limestone Presbyterian Cemetery.
