Ray Albert Whetzel, Jr. of Moundsville, passed away at home Thursday, March 21, 2019.

Ray was born July 27, 1948, in Glen Dale, WV the son of Ray A. Whetzel, Sr. and Betty West Whetzel.

He was a retired coal miner from Consol’s McElroy Mine after 37 years of service. He was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry (Butch), Robert, and David, and brother-in-law, Eddie Meade.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diana (Meade) Whetzel, two sons, Jason (Vickie) of North Carolina, Daniel (Erin) of Pittsburgh, and one daughter, Penny (Christopher) West of Florida; two brothers, Mike and Mark; three sisters, Vickie Mason (Bill) , Mary Ann South (Kevin) and Sharon Whetzel (Urban); four grandsons Kyle, Evan, Michael and Justin; four granddaughters, Amaya, Olivia, Raeleigh and Tia; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 4-7pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes and Kirby-Vance chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, with service at 7 pm, with Pastor Bill Henthorn officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Solid Rock Baptist Church, 1310 2nd Street, Moundsville, WV 26041. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.altmeyerfuneralhomes.com.
