Richard Harold Francis, 83, of Moundsville, WV, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018, in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.

Richard was born May 5, 1935, in Sand Hill, WV, a son of the late Cecil and Janie (Wilson) Francis. He was a graduate of Sherrard High School; and attended Potomac State College and Antioch College. He was a former employee of Tech Seal, Inc.; a retired draftsman for Wheeling Closure; a Methodist by faith; and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He also enjoyed farming, having raised black angus beef cattle; was an avid hunter; and in his later years, loved playing cards, and working crossword puzzles and Soduku.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane (Tomasek) Francis, in 1999; and his son, Jeffrey Francis, in 2015. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Francis of Montgomery, OH; a brother, Donald Francis of Sand Hill, WV; three sisters, Ruth Ann Albert and Doris Cowan, both of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Grace Francis of Tampa, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Richard’s special friends and caretakers, Arlene Doty of Wheeling and Stan Blankenship of Moundsville.

There will be no visitation. Services will be private. Entombment will be in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, Sherrard, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, or the Limestone Emergency Squad, 4799 Waynesburg Pike Road, Moundsville, WV 26041.
