Rosamund “Roe” Alma Grubler, 87, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019 in Wheeling Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 29, 1932, in Wheeling, the daughter of the late Agnes and Robert Emmerth Sr. of Wheeling.
Roe was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy and was employed by Hazel Atlas Glass Company before raising her family.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Bernard J Grubler Jr, DDS. Her life was dedicated to and centered around her nine loving children, Mrs. Timothy (Christine) Collins of Downingtown, Pa., Mrs. James (Barbara)Reisinger of Wheeling, W.Va., Dr. Michael (Christine) Grubler, of Wheeling, W.Va., Mrs. John (Rose) Palmer of Wheeling, W.Va., Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Perlozzo of Ocean City, Md., Mr. David (Laura) Grubler, of Wheeling W.Va., Mrs. Louis (Rita) Sokos of Morgantown, W.Va., Mrs. David (Patricia) Criminski of Pickerington, Ohio, Dr. Joseph (Kristine) Grubler of Wheeling, W.Va.; 27 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; as well as two anticipated arrivals in 2019.
She is also survived by her brother Andrew and spouse, Diane Emmerth, of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; Sister-in-law, Mary Kay Emmerth of Wheeling, W.Va.; Sister-in-Law, Rose Emma and spouse, Raymond Fields of Westlake, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert M. and Agnes (Keltus) Emmerth, her Mother and Father-in-law Bernard J. and Regina Grubler, Brothers, Robert M. Emmerth, and Thomas R. Emmerth, Sister, Helen (Emmerth) Cahoon as well as Brother and Sister-in-laws, William R. and Dorothy (Culley) Grubler, Catherine (Grubler) and Stanley Freismuth, James Cahoon, and Madge (McCarthy) Emmerth.
In her younger years, Roe was a member of the St. Michael’s Parish Adult choir and served as a Weekly Lector and Cantor of funeral masses. Her most prized role within her parish community was her position as the coordinator of the Funeral Choir, where she called, organized and directed members to celebrate the lives of fellow parishioners through the beauty of music. There, she cantored and sang over 2,000 Masses. As an active and dedicated leader in her community and faith, she served as a past President and member of the Christian Mother’s Organization, past President of the Wheeling Dental Auxiliary, and past President of the Knights of Columbus #504 Ladies Auxiliary. Aside from being a loving mother and wife, she served as a volunteer at St. Michael’s School for many years, where she instructed students on proper oral health and acted as a reading aid within the classroom. She is remembered kindly by St. Michael’s Parish and school, the organizations she served, and all of her family and friends, whom she cared for and loved deeply.
Her legacy is her unwavering devotion to her faith, family, and community.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 11 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Msgr. Joseph Peterson as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
