Ross "Jigger" Bell

Ross “Jigger” Bell, 88, of Moundsville, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020, in Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.

He was born October 22, 1932, in Moundsville, the son of Ross Durig and Rose M. Reese Bell.

Ross was a retired P/C Mechanic at Mobay Chemical; a Navy Veteran that specialized in Radio Communication; Spent most of his time on the USS Wasp and the rest on the Phillipine Island; a member of the American Legion in Moundsville.

He ran Marathons, Climbed Mountains, including the Eiger in Switzerland. He was also one of the persons credited with starting with the girls softball league.

He was a member of the Moundsville Baptist Church for over 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Sylvia “Sissy” Dorsey Bell;  4 brothers Richard, Edward, Thomas, and Joseph; 3 sisters Velma, Viola and Glenola .

Surviving is a sister Emily; son Michael, daughter, Carrie, 2 granddaughters, Micah and Alycia, and 3 great-grandchildren, Maxon, Lilly and Stella.

Friends are invited to a memorial gathering on Thursday, November 12, 2020, from 10 am until time of memorial service at 12 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes and Kirby-Vance Chapels, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville with Pastor Ron Price officiating. The family will be spreading his ashes at Seneca Rocks.
