Sharlet Ann Purpura, 69, of Wheeling, passed away peacefully with her family on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Liza’s Place.
She was born September 1, 1948 in Wheeling, a daughter of Lula Adams Hull of Wheeling and the late James Hull.
Sharlet was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Among her many accomplishments were; a graduate of Union High School in 1966, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Head Majorette and Homecoming Queen. Under one of her pictures in the yearbook, it said “As sweet as sweet can be”. She was voted most popular , best personality and best all around. Sharlet then went on to graduate from West Liberty University (College) and obtain a Master’s Degree from WVU plus 45. She was a Special Education teacher at Elm Grove Elementary where she touched the lives of her many students with her love and caring ways and her kindness. In 1999, she was 1 of 5 teachers from Chicago to Washington D.C. for being an outstanding teacher for reading. She was always trying to help people in need in her loving ways. Sharlet never knew a stranger. She was a friendly, loving, caring, beautiful lady, as beautiful as she was on the outside, she was more beautiful on the inside. She was always helping people get groceries, gift cards and clothing or any thing else they would need. Sharlet was an amazing grandmother to her 3 grandchildren, who were the light of her life and loved them dearly. There was a song in the 1970’s titled “Heaven must be missing an angel”. That is what she was and God wanted her back!
In addition to her father, Sharlet was preceded in death by a son, David James Renzella and a sister; Judy Hull.
In addition to her mother, Sharlet is survived by the love of her life of 39 years, Frank Purpura, 3 children; Leigh Ann Scherich and her husband Brad, of Moundsville, Seth Anthony Renzella of McMechen, step-son; Joseph F. Purpura and his wife Gina, of Bethlehem, 2 brothers; James D. Hull, Sr. and his wife Georgia Mae, of Benwood, Gaylerd F. Hull and his wife Sharon, of Benwood, 3 grandchildren; Reagan and Colton Scherich and Chase Purpura, several nieces and nephews and many special friends including, Sherry Dean, Dana Diosi, Asako McConn, Claire Hagan and Joyce Schultz and so many others.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall St., McMechen WV 26040 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm where a vigil service will be conducted at 7:00pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 11:00am with Rev. Joseph M. Augustine as celebrant.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family would like to thank Wheeling Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Good Shepherd Nursing Home and Valley Hospice for her excellent care.
For Memorial contributions; the family would like for donations to be Backpacks with school supplies for Ohio County Schools.
