Mary Susanne Teresa (Oliver) "Sue" Hohman

February 24, 1939 - April 15, 2022

Mary “Sue” Susanne Teresa Oliver Hohman, 83, of Triadelphia, passed away on Good Friday, April 15, 2022, at Liza’s Place surrounded by her family.

Sue was born February 24, 1939, in Wheeling, the daughter of the late James Oliver and Kathryn Brasch Oliver. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and earned her degree from Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Wheeling Hospital where she was well known and respected by doctors, nurses and patients not only for her nursing skills and gentle care, but also for proudly wearing her nurse’s cap
every day until she retired. Sue had an accomplished career, but was most proud of being a loving wife, mom and mother-in-law.

She is survived and greatly missed by Charles Thomas “Tom” Hohman, her loving husband of 57 years and their three daughters: Heidi Hohman of Wheeling; Julie and Leo (son-in-law) Meier of Chippewa
Township, PA; and Jodie Hohman of Wheeling.

Sue was the oldest of six daughters, and is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Peggy and Tom Dailer; Carol and Scott McPhilliamy and Toni and Fred Bader. Sue is survived by a large extended family,
and was affectionately known as “Aunt Sue Bee Honey” by her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Kathy Burgoyne and Sally Bodkin. She was a member of St. Vincent de
Paul Catholic Church and volunteered as the nurse for Oglebay Institute’s Junior Nature Camp. She was a life-long bird watcher and an admirer of nature. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and her cherry
pies were a favorite at the Lenten fish fries at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Triadelphia. She liked nothing better than being with Tom on their farm on Middle Creek, spending time with their daughters and Leo,
reading good books, gardening and caring for their pets.

Sue fought a courageous yet terribly one-sided and unbeatable war against Alzheimer’s. Sue was never alone in this fight. Her family was with her every step of the way. Tom, the girls and Leo are immensely proud of Sue, who faced this disease with her customary wisdom, kindness and grace. They take great comfort in knowing that the daily care they provided for Sue at home for the past 10 years brought continued joy to her life as well as their own.

Tom and the girls extend their sincerest gratitude to: Zina Kimmins for her visits and for keeping Sue as lovely on the outside as she was on the inside; Cindy Barone, Kathleen Dieffenbaugher and Leah Bailer for their excellent care, compassion and friendship; and the staff of Liza’s Place, for their exceptional care, patience and kindness to Sue and her family during the last week and a half of Sue’s life. As Sue would so often say to those who helped her, “God Bless you.”

Friends will be received Saturday April 23, 2022; 2pm-4pm and 5pm-7pm with Vigil beginning at 6:30pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home 154 Kruger Street Elm Grove, WV 26003. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held Monday at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church in Triadelphia, WV with Fr. Dunn presiding at 10am.

Memorial donations may be made in Sue’s honor to Valley Hospice Liza’s Place Care Center, 308 Mount St. Joseph Road, Wheeling, WV 26003 or online at www.tmcfunding.com (click here).
Additionally, in remembrance of Sue, take time to bring joy to someone with Alzheimer’s and to support their caregivers.
