Victor F. Cwynar Sr.

CWYNAR, Victor F. Sr., 88, of McMechen, W.Va., died Saturday, February 8, 2020 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born July 28, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late Joseph C. Cwynar and Frances E. (Kutek) Winke. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in McMechen and retired from the Ohio Ferro Alloy Corporation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a staff sergeant and aircraft mechanic for the B-52. He was a former member of the P.A.P. Club in Wheeling. He was a musician who loved playing the accordion, was an avid Notre Dame fan, and loved to golf. He was a sports enthusiast who constantly followed his grandchildren’s sporting events and achievements.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ann Marie Kurelac Cwynar in 2014, his daughter, Cindy Bittengle, his step-father, Steve Winke Sr., and his half-brother, Steve Winke Jr.

He is survived by two children, Victor (Kim) Cwynar Jr. of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Mary (Dave) Hanson of Linden, Mich.; six grandchildren, Kayla, Krista, Cole, Seth, Nicole, and Derek; three great grandchildren, Tierra, Madison, and Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 5-8 pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, with a vigil service at 7 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:30 am at St. John Catholic Church, Benwood, with Rev. Chester J. Pabin as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. James Catholic Church, 326 Logan Street, McMechen, WV 26040.
