William Anthony Widmer, Sr.

WIDMER, William A. Sr., 93, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Thursday, November 22, 2018 in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born September 13, 1925 in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late Walter and Henrietta Rabeck Widmer. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Wheeling, past Grand Knight of the Columbia Council – Knights of Columbus, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Carol Council #504, past President of the Ohio Valley Traffic Club, the St. Michael Holy Name Society, the American Legion Post 1 in Wheeling, and the Oglebay Park Golf Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Widmer, Aloyusious Widmer, and Rev. Edward J. Widmer CMF, and two sisters-in-law, Helene Widmer and Sally Widmer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa V. Ginocchio Widmer; two daughters, Janet W. (Edward) Ferroni of Naperville, Ill., and Cathy W. (Richard) Stewart of Audbon, Pa.; one son, William A. (Sonja) Widmer of Wheeling; four grandchildren, Caterina (Hans) Fuhrmeister, Renee Stewart, Anthony (Brittany) Widmer, and Fred Widmer; and two great grandchildren, James and Maria Fuhrmeister.
At William’s request, there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 11 am at St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. Martin Smay as celebrant.
