Zita J. Husick

March 15, 1925 - November 14, 2021

Zita Husick, 96, formerty of Glendale, West Virginia, passed away peacefully November 14, 2021, at
Good Shepherd Nursing Home
Born of Slovakian immigrants on March 15, 1925, Zita was third among her six siblings to be born on
U.S, soil. She embraced the American work ethic at a very young age foraging for food and clawing out a
way to get even a nickel here or there to help her family survive in very hard times. Before Zita went to
school in the early years, she could be found down on the train tracks picking up slivers of coal to help
heat the family’s home. On the way home from school she would pick through discarded food thrown out from grocery stores to find items to feed her family.
Throughout her 96 years, Zita believed in family being the cornerstone of life, She purchased a home for her parents to keep shelter over their heads. She took care of her younger siblings, and eventually
oversaw the lives of her siblings’ children making sure they needed nothing. Zita’s love of family
spanned five generations and there are countless examples of her lifelong belief that family meant
everything to her.
Zita was employed in many roles in her life. She worked her entire life starting at age 15 at OVGH
laundry, stripping leaves for cigars at Marsh Stogie, packing foods at the can factory, processing meat at
Ackermans, doing piece work at Cleveland Graphite, and eventually retired from Marx Toy Factory,
Predeceased by her parents, her husband, Paul, to whom she was married 53 years, her six siblings: Irene,
Bill, Rudy, Ilka, Chris, and Felix, Zita is survived by her niece Lynn Hetzel, her great nephew, David
Hetzel, and her great niece, Kristen Hetzel, her great-great niece Harper, all of whom loved her
The family would like to give special thanks to Good Shepherd Nursing Home, the staff of 3 North,
especially to RN Tammy Bradley, and administrator Don Kirsch, both of whom Zita considered treasured
