In 1966, Bob Cilles began his career in funeral service by working his first two summers of college at the Altmeyer Funeral Homes. Since then, he served his internship with the Kepner Funeral Homes and was employed for eighteen years, when he then returned to his boyhood home of Bridgeport, Ohio and worked for the Wilson Funeral Homes for twenty years. Most recently, and on the anniversary of forty years since he first worked in Wheeling, he returned to the Altmeyer Funeral Homes.
Bob is a St. Clairsville High School graduate, received his B.A. from Ohio Northern University at Ada, Ohio in 1970 and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1972. While employed in West Virginia, he served two terms as secretary-treasurer for the Northern District of the WV Funeral Directors Association. Bob is a member and trustee of Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wheeling, where he also serves as Acolyte Master, licensed Chalice Bearer and Layreader.
Bob and his wife, Mary Ruth, have lived in Wheeling for the past 40 years. He enjoys working in the yard and flower gardens and especially enjoys Church work, and for the past 30 years, planning and escorting the Acolytes to the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC every four years on West Virginia Day at The Cathedral
He has devoted all of his working career to funeral service and deems his work in this profession to be his ministry to people in a time of particular need.
